Basic Circuit Laws

We can sometimes combine circuit elements together to simplify the circuit.

Resistor In Series

$R_{eq}=R_1+R_2+\cdots +R_n$

Resistor In Parallel

$\frac{1}{R_{eq}}=\frac{1}{R_1}+\frac{1}{R_2}+\cdots +\frac{1}{R_n}$

Voltage Division

Provide a shortcut for finding the individual voltage across each resistor, when they are connected in series.

Example:

Current Division

We use current division when resistors are connected in parallel, so the voltage is the same everywhere.
