Courage

Several types of courage. I wrote a speech about courage for my Air Cadets Effective Speaking Speech.

Courage is not the absence of fear. It’s knowing that fear is there, and still making the choice to overcome it.

Types of courage

  • Physical courage: Staying present and uncollapsed when you are physically hurting
  • Emotional courage: Letting yourself speak with real feeling when you’re afraid of the possible consequences, such as rejection or ridicule
  • Moral courage: taking needed, value-based stands in the face of strong opposition or possible ostracism
  • Existential courage: Facing the bare reality of existence, without clinging to meaning
  • Spiritual courage: Awakening to your true nature without any dissociation from or denial of your humanity
  • Relational courage: Sharing what you’re scared to share
