Golf

Started golf around the pandemic. Then, played a lot in Ottawa summer of 2022 and stopped playing. Then, picked it back up in summer of 2024. And have coaching in summer of 2025.

Lessons that golf teaches you

  • Patience
  • Control

Exercises:

  • Arms, feel that sticking against your chest, and its rubbing against lower chest
  • Have the club top end always point towards your belly button (right now you go inwards too much)

Mental images that the coach baked into me:

  • There are 2 lines that should never be crossed:
  1. The kneecaps have a line. Both knee caps should be a golf ball within distance
  2. The hands should have a line. I have a tendency to pull it outwards during the swing. Keep it tucked in

Golf Technique

Stance:

  • In setup stance, pull your shoulders back and chest out, and then lower arms (a bit too high at the moment)
  • Legs more bent
  • For longer irons (4-5-6-7), keep the arms lower, so that we have more contact area with the ball
  • Load (preparation)
    • The club face should always be square to your shoulders, which means perp
    • HEAD stays in the same place. never move your head, else your golf club is going to move all over the place. Do NOT move it SIDE to SIDE**
  • Bump
    • By that, we mean the leading leg’s ass turns first. Remember the wall exercise that we do (lean against the wall with your ass, through the entire swing, both asscheeks should touch the wall)
  • Drop
    • let the club drop
  • Turn
    • Keep the hands tucked in
  • Post
    • Keep your arms extended. My problem is that i turn too early

Things that I eventually want to work on:

  • Using the hips more. But first, get your basics down

I am going to write down the tips here so I don’t forget:

  • Keep your left arm as straight as possible
  • Rotate the golf club as you put it back

For Putting:

  • Use your shoulders like a pendulum, you shouldn’t use your arms as much, else the shot is very difficult to control
