This is something that Peiliang taught me, which is used in image compression.
The idea is that for human eyes, we are more sensitive to low light and bright light. So for us, we are more sensitive to light intensities that change from 0-100, as opposed to 100-255.
- If we want to compress images, that means that we can afford to lose information from 100-255 without losing much information
