Spreading Activation

Spreading activation is a method for searching associative networks, biological and artificial neural networks, or semantic networks.

Activation of one concept can spread along connections to other related concepts, preparing them for use. This explains why words related to a prime are easier to identify in a masking task than unrelated words.
