Visual perception uses two types of processing to identify objects in the world:
- Bottom-up Processing: consists of putting smaller pieces together to make larger ones
- We know this is the case because humans have feature detectors
- Top-down Processing: implements strategies shaped by evolution and our experiences. These are not conscious processes and both consist of three steps.
- Best illustrated through Gestalt Principles
