Tips for designing v-belts
From Jeremy Fielding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syWiGYDOM70
- “Extra” small pulleys are problems, they dont have belts that wrap well. People think its because of belt slippage, but just get a bigger pulley
- Not having a good wrap
- Too much tension on belt is not good, results in premature wear on bearings on the machine. There should be a bit of flex on the belt,
- The belt should match the pulley
- Center to center distance, you don’t want to go more than 3 times the sum of the diameters of the two pulleys. Minimum distance is the diameter of the larger pulley
- Using an idler pulley which helps increase wrap
- Check power rating of belt
- Pulley diameter vs power rating
