Doping (Semiconductor)
Ben eater taught about this, when I was learning from first principles about how Semiconductors.
Doping is the intentional introduction of impurities into an intrinsic semiconductor for the purpose of modulating its electrical, optical and structural properties.
There is Silicon + Doped with Phosphorus (1 more electron)
- called n-type semiconductor
- This allows electrons that are free to move around and blow
and Silicon + Doped with Boron (1 less electron)
- called p-type semiconductor
- Create holes for electrons to jump to
What about the other elements?
Like instead of Boron, couldn’t we use Aluminium? Answer.
Because lower ionization energy.
