Intellectual property (IP) law grants creators exclusive rights over their creations. These rights prohibit others from making, selling or using their creation without the owners’ permission. IP law also dictates limited ways in which other creators can build on existing works to create new works. Thus, IP law also aims to stimulate the creation of derivative works that extend, adapt, or draw inspiration from existing works.
