Ecstasy (MDMA)

Ecstasy (MDMA) is another drug that defies easy categorization. It has hallucinogenic qualities (heightened sensation) but also increases nervous system activity like a stimulant (manic euphoria). Originally synthesized as a precursor for adrenalin, ecstasy entered the population as a recreational drug beginning in the 1980s in conjunction with rave culture.
