Why ODrive? https://hackaday.io/project/11583-odrive-high-performance-motor-control I need to buy these. They are really good motor controllers/encoders? What is the difference?

Encoder = thing that measures how fast a motor moves, it doesn’t actually control it Controller = thing that controls it

But why can’t we just use an ESC? This seems overly complicated?

• ESC doesn’t provide you precise control. Say you want to turn exactly 20 degrees, you can use Odrive to do that. You can see this video by James Bruton around 8:35, where he has pretty precise control
• Also has holding torque!! The higher the amperage, the better the holding torque
