Theories of Personality

Theories of personality are models that explain how an individual’s tendency to behave consistently over time came to be.

Informal Theories

These are thoeries that lack empirical support and testability. People believe in them because of the Barnum Effect.

Formal Theories

Formal theories are those that can be scientifically tested, and the empirical evidence collected, either consistent or inconsistent, determines whether the theory is good or not.
