Wilhelm Wundt
Wilhelm Wundt founded the first psychology lab in Leipzig in 1879, the conventional start date for psychology as a science. He made psychology experimental for the first time, even if his specific method didn’t last.
- Method: introspection, trained observers reporting on conscious experience of simple stimuli
- Seeded the Structuralism movement
- Aim was chemistry-for-the-mind: break experience into elemental sensations and feelings
- Displaced by Behaviorism
