Electromagnet
An electromagnet is a type of magnet in which the magnetic field is produced by an electric current. Electromagnets usually consist of wire wound into a coil.
It can do the same thing as a Permanent Magnet, but we can turn it on and off (by having current flow through the wires).
This is the basis for how Motors work!
Difference between solenoid and electromagnet?
An electromagnet is essentially a solenoid with a core material (often made of iron or steel) placed inside the coil. The core enhances the magnetic field produced by the current.
How does a core increase the magnetic field?
- A core increases the magnetic field in an electromagnet by enhancing the Magnetic Flux Density through a process called Electromagnetic Induction
