Common Joint Types
Butt joint: Two pieces of material in the same plane, pushed together edge-to-edge
Lap joint: One piece of material placed on top of another, or lapped over another
T-Joint: One edge of a piece of material placed on the face of another piece of material at a 90° angle, forming a “T” shape
Corner(or Angle) Joint: Usually, two materials with edges cut at 45° angles, and placed to form a 90° angle corner.
Slotted Joint: Materials containing slots that are fixed together, to interlock
Strap Joint: Two pieces of material in the same plane, pushed together edge-to-edge (i.e., a butt joint) with a piece of material placed on top to span the butt joint, fixing all pieces together
