Interesting to see how this parallels with my understanding of Theory.

Sociological Theory

  • Theory: statement of how & why facts are related
  • Theoretical paradigm: set of fundamental assumptions that guides thinking

In Sociology, we use different theoretical paradigms to guide our thinking, into how we interpret the world.

Perspectives that I studied in Sociology:

  1. Structural Functionalism
  2. Social Conflict Paradigm
  3. Symbolic Interactionism

There is no right or wrong paradigm/approach. Each has their strength. Here are some critiques for each:

You should use each of these as tools to better think about the world.

The two notation examples for evaluating these Sociological Theorys are taking a look at Education and Culture.
